Extending Schema-Based Reasoning to Cope with Multiple Descriptions

چکیده

Understanding natural language frequently requires determining co-reference of diierent descriptions of the same action or object. Schema-based reasoning is a well-established technology for natural language understanding ; existing systems, however, do not cope with this problem in a suuciently general way. In this paper, we propose to address this de-ciency by augmenting a schema-based rea-soner with a special-purpose inference mechanism called redescription inference. Redescrip-tion inference builds on Charniak's notion of abductive uniication Charniak, 1988]. An implementation is in progress.

Personalisation in Elena: How to cope with personalisation in distributed eLearning Networks

One of the aims of ELENA project (www.elena-project.org) is to support personalized access to distributed learning repositories. In this talk we will present an approach to personalization we employed in ELENA. We take advantage of semantic web technologies and metadata description standards. Explicit descriptions of learning objects described in RDF bindings of LOM and DC, and learners in inte...

Offline Expansion of XACML Policies

In the last few years XML-based access control languages like XACML have been increasingly used for specifying complex policies regulating access to network resources. Today, growing interest in Semantic-Web style metadata for describing resources and users is stimulating research on how to express access control policies based on advanced descriptions rather than on single attributes. In this ...

Extending and Computing the Concept Covering for the Semantic Web∗

The Semantic Web [15] initiative has begun, slowly yet steadily, to revolutionize the way information is provided on the Internet. The basic idea is to structure information with the aid of markup languages, based on the XML language, such as RDF and RDFS [14], DAML+OIL [7] and OWL [13]. These languages have been conceived to allow for representation of machine understandable, unambiguous, desc...

An Alternative to RDF-Based Languages for the Representation and Processing of Ontologies in the Semantic Web

This paper describes an approach to the representation and processing of ontologies in the Semantic Web, based on the ICMAUS theory of computation and AI. This approach has strengths that complement those of languages based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF) such as RDF Schema and DAML+OIL. The main benefits of the ICMAUS approach are simplicity and comprehensibility in the representat...

IRIS - Integrated Rule Inference System

Ontologies, fundamental to the realization of the Semantic Web, provide a formal and precise conceptualization of a specific domain that can be used to describe resources on the Web. Reasoning over such resource descriptions is essential in order to facilitate automated processing using formal descriptions that are machine interpretable. In this context, Datalog (with extensions) can be used fo...
